Stardate 55244.9 - Logan Meets an Astronaut

So guess who I met last thursday...ok, so the aforementioned title gives you a clue. She's Canadian and she flew on Discovery for STS-96 completing 10 days in Space. In 200 she was made a Knight for the National Order of Canada. Give up?

Ok, I got to meet Julie Payette (her wikipedia bio here ) Yeah I guess she was doing a tour of France and was coming through Toulouse so she requested to meet the Canadian students studying Aeronautics here...that means me :)

It was really cool. Unfortunately I had this great vision in my head that it was going to be only 4 or 5 of us, and I'd get a good chance to talk to her, ask her about space, what it takes to get there etc etc... However that was not the case. Astronauts don't come by every day, so there was a pretty big entourage of people and a questioning period which was in French, so I didn't understand much was especially frustrating because I'm pretty sure there was some cool questions asked with equally cool replies.

However this world is all about first impressions and I'm hoping I made just enough of one, that if she's working at the CSA or NASA and suddenly this application comes across her desk with Logan Jones on it...it might trigger something :) But I got an autographed pictures and I was one of the few to get a personalized message, due to me coming over to France...without actually knowing French.

Even still, I was standing beside her, trying to understand as she answered a question and suddenly I got this realization. SHE'S BEEN TO SPACE....and I'm standing right beside her. Wow...thats just cool.

Speaking of astronauts, I'm definitely going to bring out my inner geek here....but you know who I kinda feel like these days. Living in France, studying Aeronautical Engineering....Jean Luc Picard. Yep, for those of you who don't know, Jean Luc Picard was born in France, La Barre to be more exact. So in honor of astronauts and Jean Luc Picard, someone showed me this great video on youtube I'll share with you. Such a catchy song.

This is what having the best friends in the world means

Chad and I have a birthday one day apart. Chad's in the 20th of September and mine is the 21st. So on Friday my friends all gathered at Chad's house to celebrate our birthday.
