    I Love Weddings

I really haven't done much with this blog over the summer. It's not really that I've been that busy..more just no urge to take the time and sit down and write. Which is too bad, because it really has been a good summer.

Well what can I say, I love weddings. It's such a special time for two people, everyone coming together to celebrate the union and the love. As such..I try to never miss someone's wedding. I figure it's only going to happen once (or at least I hope) and I want to be there for it. Unfortunately, living away from where all your friends are makes it kind of hard. This year I had three weddings...which were three weekends in a row. Since I don't get any time off work that would have meant flying back and forth from Seattle Fri-Sun three weeks in a row. I really wanted to be there for all three, but in the end, due to the acceptance of school in France and subsequent back to poor student status, coupled with the timing of the three in a row, I had to miss the wedding of my good friends Cole and Kelly Nychka whom I know from Engineering. I was sad.

However I did make it to the third wedding where I was a groomsman for Derek and Erin Langner. And what a beautiful wedding it was. The forecast called for rain, rain and more rain. And it did...all the way up until right before the ceremony started. And then, the clouds parted, the sun came out and the sky turned blue just in time for them to walk down the aisle. Spectacular! The reception was at the Northern Bear golf course in the incredible club house. It was just plain fun. I danced the night away with just about everyone there, including the bar staff haha. Wedding definitely bring out the dancing shoes in Logan. I gave two-stepping lessons to a couple of ladies through the night.

So now I have some wedding time off, until the next big one that I know of, Damien and Lisa, where I am going to be best man on July 5, 2008. I'll have a little more work with best man duties for that one. Luckily Cory lent me the Best Man Handbook to help me prepare.

The Wedding of Chad and Chelsea

So the time came for another wedding. I still find it hard to believe that we're there....that I'm at the age where people are getting married.

As I took the plane ride home Friday for the wedding, I also came to realize that this chunk of time is the new official 'longest away from home'. I left home on Jan 6 to return July 19, so just over 7 months. So it really was a great feeling to look through the window over the prairies. All the square fields full of wheat, and canola and hay was a welcoming site.

Friday was also another big day, it was the release of the final Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! So of course, myself, Cory and Kyley along with the groom Chad in tow, headed to Chapters, Sherwood Park to be at the midnight release party. When midnight hit, it took us another hour to wade through the line and get the book, and since we all had to be up early for the wedding, we conceded and I read out loud just the first chapter during our car ride home :)

Saturday was busy as any wedding day usually is. 8am for breakfast, 9am to decorate the cars, 10 am get ready and be to Chelsea's parents house (site of the wedding) by 11am. The ceremony was beautiful in a lovely backyard. It was a pretty warm day, in around the 30's so inside the suit...well i was sweating off a couple pounds.

We then of course went for pictures downtown, drove around and started the reception by 6pm. And as per usual we heard some good speeches. Even Chad, who we usually make fun of, since he's known to mumble in front of crowds gave a heart warming speech. Then we simply danced the night away.

I like to Move it Move it was my official song of the night..because for some reason it was in my head all weekend. And Ta-da...another friend married...or as I like to say...another one bites the dust

Sunday was lazy, just lounged around then got on my flight home. I was going to try and convince the pilot to take a little detour on the flight home. The flight from Edmonton to Seattle is only 1.5 hrs...not nearly enough time to finally sit down and read Harry Potter. No go though, but i got pretty far on the book Sunday then finished it Monday...no spoilers from me, other then it was an INCREDIBLE book and a SPECTACULAR end to the series :)

I didn't take many pictures so i'm going to have to get them from my friends, but here's one good shot

    Robbie and Jessica's Wedding

    - 47 hours of travel
    - 6 connections in airports
    - 6689.30 km (in a straight line)
    - 7hrs worth of delays
    - 7 movies watched
    - 1 bag lost in transit
    - 8hrs time change
    ---------------------------
Being at Robbie and Jessica's Wedding = Priceless

You know it is always a special time when one of your best friends get married. But it's really special when it's two of you best friends getting married to each other. Such was the case this weekend. The wedding of Rob Woitas and Jessica Spinks. I've known Robbie since junior high when we played soccer together however we didn't become really good friends until high school. That is because in junior high I went to another school, St. Lukes, and that is where I met Jessica. It always amazes me how fast we became friends. All we had in common was that we shared the same hour long bus ride home, but that was enough. She was one of those friends that would always let me know what she thought, even if it wasn't exactly what I wanted to hear but what I needed to hear. And I'll always cherish that.

It wasn't until after high school that Damien and I helped bring the two together. A night at the pool hall and the start of something special. The rest is history.

The wedding went off without a hitch and was a lot of fun. I'm sure I'll be remembered for my enthusiastic singing of the birdy song since the band wasn't able to play it. I also think I dropped Kyley a couple of times trying a flip on the dance floor...whoops. All in all an amazing weekend!!! But I never want to do that much travel in that short of time span again :-)

Here's to you Robbie and Jessica!
